I have a problem with not listening to people, and always assuming I know everything. From hear on out I will listen to what people have to say, not because they are always right, but because they might teach me something.

| So for starters, the first thing I started listening to was my mind and body. I have a tendency to ignore things that are bothering me until they become an overwhelming issue, and long story short I have been ignoring my mental, physical, and spiritual health for quite some time now. I guess it's because I think of breaks as being lazy, but the truth is everyone needs a vacation every now and again. I told Willy on Monday that I wasn't going to be training this week, and strictly coaching at the gym. When i did that I committed to listening to what my students were saying, as well as seeing the specific areas of improvement that they needed help with. Overall I'm glad I took a week off from training because it allowed me to step back from the mindset of a fighter, and into the coaching mindset. I was able to see exactly what willy was talking about on at least two separate occasions. Once I was explaining something to a student, and they kept talking over me so I stood there and stared at him until he listened. Another time was just yesterday, when a I was explaining to one of my students how to throw a hook, and he said, "I know, I know, I know", and I am not making this up when I tell you that Willy and I had that exact same interaction last week. There's been a lot of other happenings in my life as of late, and I honestly think for the first time in my life I have found some semblance of peace. I won't say that this week has been the best decision making week of my life either, I am on vacation after all, but I will say is that I have done a lot better of a job of thinking with logic, as opposed to reacting off of my emotions. | |
